MEXICO – The Mexico snowmobile club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Town Hall.

Talking aspirations

DIXFIELD – A newly organized Dirigo High School parent group called Families Taking Action will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in the school’s library. The guest speaker will be SAD 21’s new superintendent, Tom Ward, who will talk about a book, “Student Aspirations: 8 Conditions That Make A Difference,” which he recently used in a presentation to district staff and again to the Board of Directors. He will also be talking about improving communication between parents and the school. All parents of Dirigo High School students are invited to attend.

Church supper

RUMFORD – A public supper will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the United Methodist Church on Linnell Street. The menu will include homemade baked beans, spaghetti, coleslaw, casseroles, beverages and pie. The cost for adults is $6 and $2 for children under 12. Legion auxiliary

RUMFORD – American Legion Auxiliary Unit 24 will meet at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5. A light lunch will be served before the meeting.

Benefit dance

RUMFORD – A benefit dance in memory of Florence Provencher will be held from 2 to 11 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Barnboard. Cost for tickets is $5. There will be a food buffet, door prizes, 50/50 drawings and live bands.

Library board

DIXFIELD – Ludden Memorial Library’s Board of Trustees will meet at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the library’s community room. The agenda includes the reading room, evening hours, sensor light and heat tapes for the roof, and a review of library policies.

ROXBURY – The Roxbury Slippery Sliders snowmobile club will hold the first meeting of the season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Roxbury fire station.

ATV group

MEXICO – The River Valley Rider’s ATV club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Chicken Coop.

Church anniversary

DIXFIELD – The Church of the Nazarene will celebrate its 45th year at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, followed by a potluck dinner, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, with a light lunch to follow. The district superintendent, the Rev. Cecil Jones and his wife, Beverly, who are former members of the church, plan to attend the celebration.

Pumpkin contest

MEXICO – The Public Library is sponsoring a pumpkin coloring contest during October. Children ages 2 to 12 are eligible. Any child wishing to enter the contest should stop by the library during October to pick up a coloring contest sheet.

Children should return the completed sheets to the library, where they’ll be displayed on the kids’ bulletin board. The completed sheets may be turned in anytime during open library hours.

The deadline for the contest will be 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28. Each child who enters the contest will receive a small gift when his or her pumpkin sheet is turned in. The sheets will be judged in three categories, ages 2 to 5, ages 6 to 9 and ages 10 to 12. Prizes will be awarded to the top pumpkins.
