LEWISTON – Growing Child Day Care is growing.
So much so that it is leaving its Lisbon location and moving into the former Candlewick Furniture store on Lisbon Road in Lewiston.
“We’re expanding,” said Director Michelle King. “We’ve outgrown our current space.”
The day care currently has 20 slots in its program; it will be able to handle up to 200 children once it makes the move.
“We’re leasing the first half of the building,” said King, who estimates it’s about 7,200 square feet and much bigger than their current location.
Plans call for creating six classrooms – each with its own bathroom – within the new building to accommodate children by age groups. Two rooms would be for infants (crawlers, and non-crawlers), another for toddlers, one for 3-year-olds, one for preschoolers and one for after-schoolers. The new location also allows for separate playgrounds for the children, a big advantage over the Lisbon location.
“Right now we have to rotate playground time,” said King. The new building will allow them to take children outside whenever weather allows.
King said there are plans to hire more staff as the enrollment increases. Currently there are 12 part-time teachers on staff, plus three administrators.
The day care is open from 7 a.m. until midnight, and offers pickup and delivery service to its clients. Daytime prices are for children ages 6 weeks to 18 months, $145 per week; 18-30 months, $135 per week; 30 months-5 years old, $115 per week; before and after school students, $75 per week; and after school only, $55 per week. Transportation is $10 per child per week. Nighttime prices are $10 more per week.
King said the day care is accepting more students, from ages 6 weeks to 12 years. They hope to be in the new location by Oct. 14.
