LISBON FALLS – Area residents can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke. Life Line Screenings will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, 14 School St.

Screenings are fast and painless. They involve the use of ultrasound technology and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, which can lead to a stroke; aortic aneurysms, which can lead to a ruptured aorta; and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which are a predictor of heart disease. A bone density screening to assess risk for osteoporosis is also offered.

Each screening requires 10 minutes or less to complete. A complete vascular screening package, including the stroke/carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm and ankle brachial index (hardening of the arteries) screenings is $99. Sign-up for a complete vascular package, including the osteoporosis screening, is $125.

Life Line Screening was established in 1993. More than 45 ultrasound teams are on staff to travel to communities. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 1-800-643-6188. Preregistration is required.
