MECHANIC FALLS – Chelsea Plourde, a 17-year-old senior at Poland Regional High School, has been named Student of the Month by the Tri-Town Optimist Club of Mechanic Falls.

Principal Derek Pierce noted that Plourde is a member of the National Honor Society, plays four musical instruments, is a member of the Lewiston High School Marching Band, participates in softball and track, belongs to the high school’s Student Council and was class president in her freshman, sophomore and junior years.

Her Senior Celebration, a project on manufacturing and robotics, feeds into her interest in microelectronic engineering, which she expects to study at the Rochester Institute of Technology after she graduates. Plourde is the daughter of Roland and Carol Plourde of Poland.

Some 25 residents of Mechanic Falls, Poland and Minot joined to start the Tri-Town Optimist Club, which is affiliated with Optimist International, one of the world’s largest and most active service club organizations.

The club works on projects to benefit area youth and the community. For information about meeting times and membership, call the club’s president, Vicki Dean, at 345-9150.
