Auburn’s absentees began voting last week.

Lewiston voters will have to wait until Monday to pick up their absentee ballots for this November’s election.

The Lewiston City Clerk’s office has received the state ballots for the Nov. 4 general election. The city’s ballots, to fill seats on the Lewiston City Council and School Committee, are scheduled to arrive Friday.

Clerks will begin mailing absentee ballots on Monday to voters that have asked for them, according to Deputy Clerk Kelly Mercier. So far, 75 people have requested absentee ballots.

Absentee voters in Auburn began voting last week, according to City Clerk Mary Lou Magno. The city has no issues on this year’s ballot, and Magno said she started sending the ballots out as soon as they arrived.

“We’ve had requests for about 30 or 40 so far,” Magno said.

The state ballot features questions about tax reform, a proposed casino in Sanford and slot machines at horse racing tracks and three state bond issues.

Residents of both cities can call the clerk’s office to have an absentee-ballot mailed to them. The phone number for Auburn is 786-2421. The Lewiston number is 784-2951.

Residents can also stop by the clerk’s office to pick up a ballot there or vote on the spot. Magno said a voting booth has been set up on the first floor of Auburn City Building since last week.

Lewiston City Clerk Kathy Montejo said she planned to set up a voting booth in Lewiston City Hall on Monday.
