1930 – 2003

LEWISTON – Kenneth J. Childs, 72, a resident of Lincoln Street, died peacefully Saturday morning at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Boston, Mass. Dec. 28, 1930, the son of Clinton and Lavena Campbell Childs. Educated in Lewiston schools, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School with the class of 1949. He served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Self-employed, he was the owner and operator of Child’s Linen Service in Lewiston. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn, a member of American Legion Post #153 in New Auburn, a member of Lewiston Lodge #371 Benevolant Protective Order of Elks, and served on the board of directors of Empower Lewiston.

His hobbies included scubadiving, sky diving, fishing, hunting, birdwatching and gardening. He was an avid hockey fan.

He leaves six daughters, Kim Bond of Calif., Victoria Heldt of Lewiston, Jennifer Bertrand and her husband, Brian, of Auburn, Veronica Morrill and her husband, Barry, of Auburn, Rebecca St. Pierre and her husband, Dan, of Livermore, and Samantha Childs and her companion, Scott Rioux, of Greene; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Laverdiere of Lewiston; a brother, Aubrey Childs and his wife, Irene, of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Sands and a brother, Willis Childs.
