BOSTON (AP) – The Boston Bruins traded goaltender Steve Shields to the Florida Panthers for future considerations, the team said Sunday.
The Bruins acquired Shields, 31, from Anaheim in June 2002 for a third round draft pick. He had a 12-13-9 record and 2.75 goals against average in 36 games last season.
The move leaves Boston with two goaltenders, Andrew Raycroft and Felix Potvin, on its roster. The Bruins open the regular season Wednesday at home against New Jersey. Potvin signed with the team as a free agent before training camp.
In two preseason games with Boston this fall, Shields was 1-1-0 with a 3.75 goals against average.Shields is 76-96-38 with a 2.59 career goals against average in 225 NHL games over nine years.
He also has played with Buffalo and San Jose.
