FARMINGTON – A Strong man sentenced in 2002 for sexually assaulting and abusing three teenage boys had his jail time reduced Monday by three months.

Lawrence “Buster” Curtis, 48, at the time Justice Ellen Gorham sentenced him to serve seven years of three consecutive 18-year sentences in February 2002, appeared Monday in Franklin County Superior Court.

Gorham had also sentenced Curtis to serve five-year concurrent sentences for each of the three counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

Curtis pleaded guilty to one count each of gross sexual assault and sexual abuse of a minor and pleaded no contest on two counts of gross sexual assault and two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in December.

In addition, Curtis was sentenced by a federal judge to serve a consecutive three-month sentence on top of the state sentence for a charge of a being a felon in possession of a firearm. Curtis had previously been convicted of sexual misconduct charges.

On Monday, a judge allowed Curtis’ state sentence of seven years in jail to be reduced by three months, Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said.

But Curtis is required to serve the three months ordered on the federal charge, Andrews said.

In effect, Curtis serves the seven years but only six years and nine months is for the state charges and three months for the federal charge, he said.

Attorney Donald Hornblower stood in for Curtis’ new attorney Charles Murray of Florida. Curtis was represented by attorney Janet Mills initially when he was charged and sentenced.
