BETHEL – The annual Bethel Historical Society Apple and Pumpkin Festival was held as part of the community’s Harvestfest on Sept. 20 at the society’s Regional History Center. Both the Dr. Mason House and the Robinson House were open to the public.

The museum shop and the exhibits at the Robinson House and the book signing and museum tours at the Mason House were among the attractions. In addition, pumpkin whoopie pies were available on the side porch of the Robinson House. Cider pressing and applesauce-making attracted much interest.

At the Mason House, Pat Stewart discussed her novel, “Mollyockett,” based on the life of the famed Indian woman and autographed many copies of the book.

Volunteers who made the day such a success were Jan Todd and Kathy Kunkle in the museum shop, Lois Kilroy and Nancy Morris for all their help with selling whoopie pies and helping with the cider and applesauce, Jean Owen for assisting with the book signing, and Amy Davis for museum tours. Baking the whoopie pies were: Bessie Bennett, Judy Haskell, Susan Herlihy, and Lois Kilroy. Alden Kennett loaned his cider press for the event. All apples used for the day were from the society’s orchard in the rear of the Dr. Mason House.
