The celebration is possible as a result of a community effort to sponsor events.

FAYETTE – Community organizations are combining their efforts to sponsor the Fayette Octoberfest starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Fayette Central School.

The fifth-grade class will sell coffee, juice and muffins from 9 to 11 as their fund-raiser.

Children’s games will be sponsored by the Fayette School and Home Association and will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the gymnasium.

The Fayette Recreation Committee will hold two scarecrow contests, one for adults and one for children 12 and under.

Scarecrows must be brought to the school by 10 a.m. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded. Register entry with Elaine Wilcox.

A big pumpkin contest will be sponsored by the Fayette Historical Society for Fayette families who picked up and planted the seedlings from the historical society. Bring the pumpkins to the school between 9 and 10 a.m. for weighing in for prize money.

The pumpkin carving and decorating contest will be under the direction of the Fayette Recreation Committee. The contest is for children 12 and under. Bring decorated or carved pumpkins to the school by 10 a.m. Judging and prizes will be awarded at 11:30 a.m. For more information call Elaine Wilcox 685-3886.

The Fayette Fire Auxiliary will be in charge of the apple and pumpkin pie baking contest. Entries must be brought to the school by 10 a.m. Judging will be done at 11. For more information call Phyllis Hewett 685-3610.

The Fayette Fire Department will be at the school with firetrucks, displays and will be available to answer questions.

Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature hot dogs, chips, soda and candy apples.

A supper and dance will conclude the day’s activities. The historical society will serve a harvest supper from 5 to 6 p.m. featuring fall vegetables with ham or corned beef, rolls, dessert and drink. The price is $6 for adults and $3 for children. For more information, call Sue Rich at 685-4702.

The Over the Hill Gang will provide music for the dance from 6 to 8 p.m. upstairs at Starling Hall.
