CASCO – A traffic stop led law enforcement agencies to two locations Tuesday and 25 pounds of marijuana, $50,000 in cash and charges against five people.

The marijuana was valued at $43,000.

Three people were arrested and two summoned on charges of trafficking in marijuana, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Maine State Police Trooper Jeremy Forbes stopped a Nissan sports utility vehicle having no front license plate on Route 5 in Dayton. Five ounces of marijuana were found in the vehicle, McCausland said.

Troopers and agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency then went to the home of Eric Schildroth, 25, and Paula Gosselin, 22, of 20 South Road, Newfield. Agents found a pound of marijuana and drug paraphernalia there.

Schildroth and Gosselin received summonses on a charge of trafficking in marijuana.

Police did not say who owned the vehicle or who was driving.

The investigation continued at the house of Philip Schoolcraft, 56, of 31 Higgins Road in Casco, where 24 pounds of marijuana was found along with the $50,000, McCausland said.

Troopers said the marijuana was packaged in small baggies. The cash was discovered in a tool box in a pickup in the driveway of the house.

Schoolcraft was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Also arrested were Shane Randall, 39, of Portland and Jason Schildroth, 29, Saco, the spokesman said.

Schoolcraft is at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland; Jason Schildroth is at the York County Jail in Alfred.

Randall was released on bail from the state police barracks in Alfred.
