DIXFIELD – The Historical Society will host Billie Gammon, formerly of Norlands Living Center, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Charter Meeting Room. This will be Gammons’s fourth portrayal of historical figures at the Dixfield Historical Society. She will perform and tell the story of the “Widow Carver,” the first white woman to settle in Maine. The program will follow the annual business meeting and election of officers

Refreshments will be served and the public is invited.

Club supper

RUMFORD – Le Paresseux Snowshoe Club 75th Anniversary Supper will be held Friday, Oct. 10. A social hour begins at 5 p.m., ham supper at 6 p.m. and dance from 8 p.m. to midnight. Music is by Barry Wood “Act 1.” Tickets are $8 for single and $15 for a couple. Members and guests are welcome.

MEXICO – The women of Stephens High School Class of 1943 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the Mexico Chicken Coop. For more information, people can call 364-8335.

ANDOVER – The Historical Society will host an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. Refreshments will be served. The Covered Bridge puzzle will be for sale, along with other items.

Cemetery request

MEXICO – The Farrington Morton Cemetery Association representatives are asking that all plants, containers and arrangements be removed from the cemetery by Sunday, Oct. 12, in preparation for winter.

Candle sales

MEXICO – Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 14, and continuing through Friday, Nov. 14, the Public Library will hold a Village Candle fund-raiser. The candle company is based in Topsham. Catalogs will be available at the library until Nov. 14. All orders should arrive in time for Christmas. All money raised from fund-raiser will go to the Mexico Public Library. RUMFORD – The Daughters of Isabella St. Timothy Circle 504 will hold an audit for officers at noon Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the St. Athanasius & St. John Church hall. Installation of officers will follow at 1 p.m. with a luncheon and a regular monthly meeting.

Red Hat meeting

MEXICO – The Red Hat Mommies of Western Maine met Sept. 24 at the Chicken Coop 28 members were in attendance. Red Hat pins were won by Carol Freeman, Donna Bernard and Sylvia Touchette.

• Thursday, Oct. 16, Tea at Louise Horne’s at 2 p.m. Bring tea cups.

• Tuesday, Oct. 21, Tasting Party at Murdock Country Creations in Turner. Carpool leaves Blaisbell’ Store in Peru at 12:15 p.m.

The next meeting is at 5 p.m. Oct. 29 at Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shoppe on Route 2 in Rumford for a hat decorating contest.

RUMFORD – Stephens High School’s Class of 1951 members will hold their monthly luncheon at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Teena’s Restaurant, East Rumford.

Anniversary show

RUMFORD – The Rumford Area Association of Performing Arts is presenting its “35th Anniversary Spectacular” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, in the Mountain Valley High School auditorium.

Tickets are available from RAAPA members and at Bartash, Port to Port, Hannaford, Log Cabin Craftsworks, Larsen’s Electric, Andover General and Mills Market in Andover.

GOP dinner set

BROWNFIELD – The Oxford County Republican monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Brownfield Community Church. Social hour is 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at a cost of $6.50.

David Heidrick, grandson of state Rep. Ted Heidrick, will give a report on his experience in the U.S. Senate during the summer of 2003.

There will be introductions and comments by announced candidates for Maine Senate District 13: David Hastings III, Caldie Jackson and former representative Paul Waterhouse.

The public is invited.
