1921 – 2003

RUMFORD – Wesley V. Bean, Jr., 82, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, following a short battle with cancer and with his loving family by his side, at the Rumford Hospital in Rumford. He was a resident of Rumford and had lived in the area most of his life.

Born in Bethel, May 30, 1921, a son of Wesley and Elizabeth (Hodgkins) Bean, Sr., he attended Bethel schools.

During World War II he served overseas as an Army Pfc, Headquarters Battery 3rd Infantry Division Artillery and had received the Bronze Star for his efforts during heavy enemy shellfire at Anzio Beach.

He was employed as a shift foreman for over 35 years at Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford, until retirement in the early 1980s.

He was a member of the Robert Shand Post #1641, VFW and a former member of Napoleon Ouellette Post #24, American Legion.

He enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, hunting, fishing and was very active for many years with the Chisholm Ski Club. He especially loved his family.

He was married in Catawissa, Pa. on Nov. 3, 1945, to the former Alice Mae Tilley, who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include a daughter, Pamela M. Bean of Carthage; a son, Wesley E. Bean and his wife, Sue, of Eldorado Hills, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Trudeau of Va.; two brothers, Frank Bean and his wife, Janet, of Rumford and Carroll “Cack” Bean and his wife, Beatrice, of West Paris; eight grandchildren, Laura, Christian, Jacob, Melissa, Stephanie, Naomi, Breanna and Wesley; and six great-grandchildren, Amber, Draven, Averie, Samantha, Tyler and Hannah.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Carolyn; and a brother, Stanley.
