I’ve thought about it, and I think the casino proposal stinks.
The plan was already stinking when the faceless out-of-state corporations paid people handsomely to obtain signatures on petitions to get the question on the ballot. Shouldn’t that be illegal?
The stench grew stronger as they developed a completely self-serving, virtually untouchable legal package that, among other things, limits taxation only to slot machines. Wouldn’t you love to be able to write your own law?
The stench grew even more overwhelming with their expensive advertising, which presents speculations as facts and ignores the particularly reprehensible parts of their law. For example, legalizing “kiddie gambling.” How thoughtful to provide for the gambling needs of our children.
The stench is now in full bloom as their shrewdly misleading advertisements paid for by questionable out-of-state gambling interests drone on and on endlessly over the airwaves.
Millions of dollars are being invested now by these self-serving out-of-state gambling interests in anticipation of billions of dollars in future profits, most of which will simply leave the state as they always have. And the money they will leave behind is not going to be enough to cover the increased costs of highways, housing, policing and education in an already overburdened area of our state.
Think about it, please. Yes, I’ve thought about it, and I’m voting no.
