AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library Maggie Trafton Authors for Young Readers Series will bring the Tanglewood Marionettes at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, to the Olin Concert Hall, Bates College.
Several years ago the library presented the nationally touring marionette theater with a performance of “Cinderella.” They return this year with “An Arabian Adventure.”
The program will begin with a brief demonstration of the art of puppetry. More than a dozen handcrafted marionettes and storybook-style scenery is used for the tale of a Persian prince who is thrown into a dungeon because of his love for a beautiful princess. He must battle his way out to save her from a tragic fate.
Special lighting effects and classical music from favorite composers as well as traditional Middle Eastern music will accompany the production. Marionettes will be in full view so the audience may witness the mechanics of puppet manipulation.
In the tradition of “A Thousand and One Nights,” the performance promises to be action-packed drama best enjoyed by children 5 years and older and their families.
Tickets are required and available at the Auburn Public Library Children’s Department for a donation of $2.
