PARIS – Eleven schools in Oxford County will have programs this month on using the Enhanced 911 emergency response system.
Volunteers from the Oxford County Regional Communications Center will teach the curriculum, which was developed by the state Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Services Communication Bureau.
Jeff Clark, Tami Corson and Dori Coffin will instruct elementary students on how to use the computer-linked telephone system. The network sends 911 calls to specified regional answering centers where computer screens tell dispatchers the exact address of the call for faster response by police, rescue and fire personnel. The caller’s name and phone number are also logged, along with the nature of the emergency.
Times haven’t been set for all the programs, which will be:
Oct. 14: Virginia Elementary School, Rumford, 8:30 a.m.
Oct. 15: Peru Elementary School
Oct. 16: New Suncook School, Lovell, 9:15 a.m.
Oct. 17: Woodstock School
