1924 – 2003

LEWISTON – Claire J. Allen, 79, of Summer St., Lisbon Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 12, at Central Maine Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on April 16, 1924, the daughter of Oscar and Leona (Gage) Plant. She was raised in Lowell, Mass. and educated in the local school system. On January 18, 1943, she married David Allen and together they started their family.

Claire was employed at the Prince Co. in Mass. for ten years but her most successful career was acting as mother and homemaker to her family. She acted as past president of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling throughout the state especially in Rangeley and Bar Harbor. She was an avid shopper, enjoyed music and dance, and showed off her talent in crochet by making many beautiful afghans. She was a very loving person and enjoyed being in the company of her family, she will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Bordeleau of Lowell, Mass. and Diane Hughes and her husband, Tim, of Lisbon; two sons, George Allen Sr. and his wife, June, of Dexter and Donald Allen Sr. of Palmyra and his fiancee, Karen Hagar; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, two sisters, Blanch Chulada and her husband, Anthony, of Mass. and Theresa Barrett of Fla.; and many neices and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, David in 1990; two sons, David Jr. in 1991 and Richard in 1978; her sisters, Rita and Doris; a daughter-in-law, Pearl; and son-in-law, Donald.
