The hearing is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Municipal Building.

FARMINGTON – Selectmen are scheduled to hold a public hearing Tuesday on a proposal to limit parking on the south side of Middle Street.

The proposal to the town’s Traffic Ordinance calls for parking to be eliminated on the side of the street where the Community Center is located, except for two parking spaces for people with disabilities in front of the American Legion and three spots in front of St. Joseph’s Church.

It’s a safety concern, Town Manager Richard Davis said. The road becomes narrow when there are cars parked on the side of the road, he said.

The change would keep the road open, he said.

The hearing is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the selectmen’s conference room at the Municipal Building.

During the regular selectmen’s meeting, selectmen are expected to discuss a $64,820 proposed budget, which is the latest proposal Davis knew of, he said, for operation of Mount Blue Television Channel 11, a local access channel.

Both Farmington and Wilton contributed the full-franchise fees received from Bee Line Cable to operate the program this year.

Davis said the station representatives are requesting the franchise fees again for next year.

Selectmen are also scheduled to consider applying for a Rural Development Grant to help offset the cost of relocating the town’s treated sewage outflow into the Sandy River.

Davis said the town could be eligible for a $100,000 grant and could apply for $200,000 loan.

Selectmen will also seek different sources of funding, he said.

Another issue selectmen are expected to consider is whether to rejoin the Maine Service Center Coalition. The cost is 10 cents per person to rejoin for a total of $741.
