Holocaust speakers
PORTLAND – A special panel discussion will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, with Holocaust survivors from Maine. Rochelle and Jerry Slizka and Julia Skalina, all from Portland, will speak, and Judith Isaacson of Auburn, a University of New England Deborah Morton awardee, will read from her book, “Seed of Sarah.”
The program is part of a series related to the art exhibition, “The Art and Artistry of Arthur Szyk,” on view through an extended date of Nov. 2 at the Art Gallery at the University of New England, Westbrook College Campus, 716 Stevens Ave. All programs are free and open to the public. Rotary talk
LEWISTON – The speaker at the Thursday, Oct. 16, meeting of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club will be Paula Charest of the Boston Better Business Bureau. Charest will speak on setting standards for reliability, credibility and ethics.

Driving course
LISBON FALLS – A Maine Driving Dynamics course will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, and Thursday, Oct. 23, at Lisbon High School.
Those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. Classes fill quickly or may be canceled due to small class size, therefore, register or call for more information as soon as possible at 353-3037.
The course covers crash-avoidance techniques, which are essential for everyday driving situations with films, classroom discussion and lectures. It is open to the public and is sponsored by Lisbon Falls Adult Education and the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.
Writers’ jam
LEWISTON – Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance will present an informal Writers’ Jam on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Mr. Paperback Cafe. The event will begin with a social half hour at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting running from 7 to 8:45 p.m. It is open to all genres and is free. Music fest
LISBON FALLS -The Lisbon High School Music Department will sponsor a music fest at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in the cafeteria. Acts will include bands, vocalists, instrumentalists, poetry readings and Maine humor. Refreshments will be sold. Tickets are $5 each and must be purchased in advance.

Rabies clinic
BRUNSWICK – Coastal Humane Society, 30 Range Road, will hold a Rabies, Etc., Clinic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19. Rabies shots, microchip identification, ear cleaning, nail trimming and dog head halter demonstrations will be available.
The costs are rabies, $10; microchip, $20; ear cleaning, $5; and nail trimming, $5. Rabies vaccinations will be available for dogs, cats and ferrets; nail clipping available for dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs.
