LIVERMORE FALLS – Police responded to a call to Pike’s Corner Oasis and ended up catching a Virginia man wanted on robbery and assault charges in Monmouth.

Peter Lovejoy, 44, of Richmond, Va., was being held Monday on $5,000 cash or $50,000 surety at Kennebec County Jail in Augusta.

Livermore Falls police Lt. Thomas E. Gould and officer Maurice Drouin responded to a call from Pike’s employees Thursday night of a suspicious male who appeared to be intoxicated, Gould said.

Drouin was interviewing Lovejoy, Gould said, when Winthrop police called dispatch and advised the man involved was wanted in Monmouth in connection with a robbery and assault. Drouin charged Lovejoy with operating under the influence and driving without a license.

Livermore Falls police turned Lovejoy over to Monmouth police officers Travis Lovering and Bobby Doyon, who arrested him for the incident in that town.

Neither Lovering nor Doyon were available for comment Monday.

But Winthrop police officer Tony Dumont said he charged Lovejoy with theft for allegedly stealing a down jacket from a fitness center when he stopped and asked directions to Rumford.

A girl at the center allegedly heard her sport utility vehicle’s panic alarm go off and went to check her coat.

It was gone, Dumont said, and the keys were in it.

When Lovejoy was taken into custody in Livermore Falls, he was wearing the down jacket, Dumont said.

A corrections officer at Kennebec County Jail said Lovejoy is being held on theft and assault charges. Those charges are in relation to the Monmouth incident.
