RUMFORD – Selectmen will try to work out a new agreement with area fire departments for the use of the Rumford Fire Department’s extrication tool at their meeting Thursday. They will also continue discussing the proposed Route 2 bypass issue and decide whether to extend the municipal sewer line.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 in the conference room of the Municipal Building.

Town Manager Robert Welch said the Fire Department’s jaws of life has been shared with mutual aid communities in the past. With the new countywide emergency system now in place, some modifications most likely will have to be made.

Selectman Jim Peterson will report on his meeting with the Mexico Board of Selectmen where Rumford’s proposed truck route of a section of Route 2 that would bypass Mexico’s business district was discussed. The board may set up a second joint meeting of the two boards of selectmen and the Maine Department of Transportation.

The board will also decide whether to pay about $30,000 for the extension of the municipal sewer line about 800 feet along Franklin Annex. Two mobile homes are currently located on the road. Welch said five or six more are being planned for Franklin Annex.

Other agenda items include action on a parade permit request for the annual Halloween parade down Congress Street on Oct. 30, action on two liquor licenses and an amusement permit for two local businesses, appointments of the registrar and deputy registrar of voters, and a closed session with the public works supervisor and a representative from the Rumford Police Department to discuss highway and police departments union negotiations.
