WEST PARIS – The Finnish American Heritage Society of Maine will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Heritage Center on Maple Street. Members will discuss locations and ideas for future picnics and volunteer workforce.

Tap dance class

NORWAY – Art Moves Dance Studio will offer a tap class Mondays at 4:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 20, at the studio at 13 Cottage St. Classes will be taught by Sasha Campbell who studies with Bruce Tracy at Casco Bay Movers in Portland. Ladies meeting

WEST PARIS – The West Paris Baptist Church Ladies Group will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the church. Featured will be a speaker on the White Cross followed by refreshments.

Senior College

BETHEL – Western Mountains Senior College will hold its annual meeting at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the West Parish Congregational Church. Board members will be elected. Included will be a review of activities and classes of the previous year, and suggestions will be taken for additional offerings. Refreshments will be served. Ski volunteers

NEWRY – Maine Handicapped Skiing is searching for volunteers to help adults and children with physical disabilities with downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Maine Handicapped Skiing serves people with physical disabilities including traumatic brain injury, stroke, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, blind and visually impaired, deaf and hearing impaired and amputees.

More than 1,100 lessons were given in 2003, most at Sunday River Ski Resort. Downhill skiing and snowboarding lessons are taught on weekends at Sugarloaf/USA in Carrabassett Valley and cross country skiing and snowshoeing lessons are taught at the Sunday River Inn and Cross Country Ski Center Wednesday through Friday during Maine Handicapped Skiing season.

New volunteers are required to take three days of training in November and December, and then give 10 days of volunteer time working with Maine Handicapped Skiing participants at three possible locations: Sunday River Ski Resort, Sunday River Inn and Cross Country Ski Center and Sugarloaf/USA.
