WILTON – A public supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the First Congregational Church on Main Street. Donations will benefit the Wilton Area Food Pantry. The menu includes baked beans and casseroles, salads, breads and a variety of desserts. All are welcome.

Mission conference

WILTON – The East Wilton Union Church will hold a missionary conference Friday through Sunday, Oct. 17-19, at the church. The services begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday. This year’s theme is, Across the Street and Around the World. Nard and Sandy Pugyao who serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Waxhaw, N.C., will attend the conference. Pugyao often returns to his native Phillipines to serve there for special projects with his people. Ray and Marcia DeLaHaye and their sons, Doug and Mark, serve the Lord in Nigeria, Africa, under Sudan Interior Mission. They too will share throughout the conference and their sons will speak Friday night. Hal and Linda Stone and Jenni of East Wilton will also report on their work. Hal has been appointed the northeast regional director for Wycliffe Bible Translators with whom they have served for almost 30 years. The emphasis will be on youth on Saturday night. A teen mission presentation by Jenni Stone will be included in the program. There will be a men’s breakfast at 7 a.m. Saturday at the church and a women’s brunch at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Jim Hager in Wilton. Special music is planned throughout the weekend. Film to be shown

CARTHAGE – The Carthage Historical Society will view the film, “Jackass Annie,” following a potluck supper Tuesday, Oct. 21, in the school house museum. The supper begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the program. Ken McShane of New Sharon will show his film and tell the story of Messanie Wilkins who set out with $32 in 1955 to travel across the country on her horse, Tarzan, accompanied by her dog. All are welcome.

Job fair

WILTON – The Wilton CareerCenter will host a job fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the center on Route 2. Those who are looking for employment, considering a career change, or who just want to know about the future job market are welcome to attend. The CareerCenter is located in the Cousineau Mall between Athena’s Restaurant and the bowling alley on Route 2 in Wilton. A partial list of the employers who will be there includes: Care and Comfort, Gates Form Fibre, Project Staffing, MBNA, Livebridge, Sugarloaf, SugarLoaf Food Services/Boston Concessions, Wal-Mart, Army, RM Transition Inc., Community Corrections Alternatives, and Sybernet.

Earmuff day

FARMINGTON – The Farmington-Wilton Chamber of Commerce is making plans for this year’s 27th Annual Chester Greenwood Day on Dec. 6. The parade will begin at the Mallett School at 11 a.m. followed by raising the Chester Greenwood flag at the Superior Court building. The chamber will serve cake and chili in the gazebo of Meeting House Park. The Titcomb House will be open that day for viewing of Greenwood memorabilia along with the Festival of Trees at the Granary during the day. The Polar Bear Club will make their annual dip into Clearwater Lake around 3 p.m. Phone the chamber office at 778-4215 if you wish to participate in the parade.
