FARMINGTON – Jodie Welch fired off six shots, including the game-winner at the 43:45 mark, to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 2-0 win over St. Joseph’s College in women’s soccer Thursday.

Erin Campbell provided the Beavers (8-2-1) with an insurance goal midway through the second half.

Maine 1, Binghamton 0

VESTAL, N.Y. – Linda Consolante fired a shot from 40 yards out into the net in overtime Thursday to lift the University of Maine to a 1-0 win over Binghampton in women’s soccer action.

Tanya Adopno needed only two saves for the Black Bears (9-1-1) to notch the shutout. Kristie Bowers made a pair of saves in net for Binghamton (7-6-1) in the loss.

Men’s soccer

Bates 5, UNE 1

LEWISTON – Anthony Silva scored a pair of goals late in the first half to fuel momentum as Bates College took a 5-1 win over the University of New England in men’s soccer Thursday.

Alex Wolff opened up the scoring for the Bobcats (4-6-1) eight minutes into the contest. Following a Greg Sanborn goal to tie things up for the Nor’easters (2-8-1), Silva sent a rocket into the top left corner to retake the lead. And three minutes later, he converted a pass from Jacob Bluestone for a 3-1 lead at the half.

Dan Bradford connected for his team-high sixth goal of the season on a relay from Silva early in the second half, and Brendan Nangle rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats with a conversion from Ian Livengood.

Steven Bishop made 13 saves for the Nor’easters, while James Kenly stopped three for Bates.
