A committee will consider options for the town’s dispatching needs.

LIVERMORE FALLS – Members of the Dispatch Study Committee met Thursday night at the town office to continue discussing the pros and cons of having another agency take over dispatch services.

A proposal to have at least a portion of the 24-hour dispatch operation done by Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department was turned down by townspeople. They asked that selectmen appoint a study committee to look at options.

Jay Police Chief Larry White was invited by Chairman Maxine Bailey to clarify portions of a proposal from his department.

The committee now has to compare the possible savings of going with the Jay contract to the disadvantages, which include a lack of presence in the police station, cost of continued maintenance of equipment, a possible increase in insurance costs and displacement of local personnel.

Lack of a dispatcher in the police station would mean prisoners could no longer be held in the lockup but would have to be transported immediately, Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.

Also, if there were no one at the station, a safe area might have to be constructed so residents could seek help.

The committee will continue its study and meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday again at the office.
