No prior skating experience is required.

FARMINGTON – Western Mountains Hockey and Skating Association invite any children from ages 8 to 11 who are interested in learning to play hockey under the banner of the Farmington Flyers to attend a free introductory clinic from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Kents Hill School.

The clinic will be run by qualified coaches. No prior skating experience is required. Coaches will be demonstrating some basic hockey and skating skills.

No equipment is required at this clinic, but it is advised that all participants wear a helmet. A bicycle or football helmet is acceptable.

Skaters who plan to continue skating with the Flyers will eventually need additional equipment such as hockey pants, elbow and shoulder pads, and shin guards.

The WMHSA is open to area kids from Farmington to Jay, Wilton, Strong, Phillips, Kingfield, Dixfield or Rumford or elsewhere.

Following the clinic, more information about the association’s winter schedule and fees will be available. It is expected that families will be asked to pay approximately $150 per child, which is less than other hockey programs where the cost may be up to $650 per season.

The association tries to keep fees reasonable. The more contributions raised will lower the cost for the children. All coaches and committee members are volunteers. No one is paid for their extensive commitment of time.
