The nonprofit group does several month-long

bike tours.

FARMINGTON – The Global Living Project will bike to the University of Maine at Farmington for a public presentation at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Ricker Addition, Room 217 at UMF.

The Global Living Project is a non-profit group that promotes environmental sustainability by encouraging people to assess and reduce their personal impacts on the environment.

The group offers lecture-slide shows and workshops that employ ecological footprinting, a simple method for quantifying the amount of land needed to support the production of the things we use and to absorb waste.

Their principles are described on their Web site www.globallivingproject.org and in Global Living Project founder Jim Merkel’s book, Radical Simplicity: Small Footprints on a Finite Earth. The Global Living Project visits campuses during several month-long bike tours, one of which started in September and includes Farmington

The public is invited to this free presentation and slide show by Merkel and Rowan Sherwood of the Global Living Project.

The event is sponsored by the UMF President’s Office, UMF’s SEACHANGE student organization, the UMF Department of Social Sciences and Business, the UMF Department of Natural Sciences and the Green Campus Coalition.
