1939 – 2003

LEWISTON – Rita L. Quimby, 64, a resident of Plains Road in North Turner, died Saturday evening, Oct. 18, at Montello Manor in Lewiston following a brief illness.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1939, the daughter of Leo and Marion Spear Purington. She was a graduate of Gardiner High School. On August 31, 1979, she married Robert Quimby in Turner. He died Oct. 7, 1998.

Rita was a homemaker and housewife. She was a passionate golfer, having participated in several Maine State Golfing Association Tournaments. She was a member for years at Maple Lane Golf Course, and when Turner Highlands opened in Turner, she became a mainstay member at that course. She also enjoyed following football and baseball.

She is survived by two sons, Mark Spear and his fiancée, Lisa Pouliot, of Augusta and Peter Spear of Seattle, Wash.; two stepsons and their wives, Scott and Nadia Quimby of Turner, Rick and Gene Quimby of Windham; one stepdaughter and her husband, Cathy and Dan Lewis of Canaan, N.H.; six brothers and their wives, Richard and Betty Purington of Randolph, Theodore and Judy Purington of Gardiner, Robert and Penny Purington of Gardiner, Gary and Betty Purington of Gardiner, Leo Purington of Millinocket, John and Cathy Purington of Woolwich; five grandchildren, Rodney, Brooke, Kasie, Haley, and Ryan; one great-grandson, Brad; three step-grandchildren, Monica, Sarah, and Leonie.

She was predeceased by her husband; and a son, Daniel Spear Feb. 10, 2003.
