LEWISTON – Former Gov. Angus King is expected to speak Tuesday, Oct. 21, when the anti-casino campaign opens a downtown Lewiston office.
CasinosNO!, the campaign opposing the proposed $650 million Indian casino, is opening an office at 110 Lisbon St., the former Lamey-Wellehan store. King will speak at 5 p.m. during the opening reception. The public is invited to attend.
Former state senator and Auburn resident Barbara Trafton has volunteered to oversee the Lewiston office and local campaign. Property owner Jim Wellehan has donated the space to the anti-casino effort, said campaign spokesman Dennis Bailey.
The pro-casino campaign, Think About It, opened a campaign office in Lewiston in September. That office, also on Lisbon Street one block from City Hall, is staffed by a full-time coordinator.
