NORWAY – A UNICEF Halloween party will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Second Congregational Church. It will include games, food, a costume contest and a haunted house in the parsonage barn next door. Tickets at the door will be 25 cents each or 5 for $1. Each game will cost one to two tickets.

Blood drive

MECHANIC FALLS – An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Our Lady of Ransom Church, 111 Elm St. Donors must be at least 17 years of age, in general good health, and weigh at least 110 pounds. For information or an appointment call 1-800-482-0743.

Halloween crafts

NORWAY – The Norway Memorial Library will hold a Halloween celebration for parents and children from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the library on Main Street.

Children can make three crafts: black cats, egg carton spiders and balloon ghosts. They can also listen to stories and have a snack.

Participants are invited to come in costume.

Trick-or-treaters can visit the library from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, during Norway’s Halloween Main Street event.

WEST PARIS – There has been a change to the singspiration events being held by the West Paris Baptist Church. A singspiration will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the North Paris Federated Church, North Paris village. For information phone 674-3046.

Blood drive

PARIS – An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Paris Fire Station, Western Avenue. Donors must be at least 17 years of age, in general good health, and weigh at least 110 pounds. Giving blood takes approximately one hour. Donors may give blood every eight weeks. Blood supplies have been steadily declining over the summer months and reserves of all types need to be dramatically increased in order to meet the needs of patients, according to Thomas O. Youth basketball

PARIS – Boosters Youth Basketball sign-ups will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 29 and 30, at the Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street, South Paris. Performers’ night

NORWAY – The Commons Music Collective will hold a public Coffeehouse Open Mic at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. This will be a night of Halloween fun, organizers said. Performers can sign up at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, with kids admitted free. Costume dress is being encouraged, but isn’t required. All ages and talents are invited to participate or enjoy the show. Refreshments will be offered. Families who are out trick-or-treating are being invited to stop by.

NORWAY – Trick or treating will be held for ages 11 and under from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center, 29 Marion Ave. Kids will be able to visit a haunted forest and go to the witches station for witches brew.

PARIS – Maurice Dance Theatre will host a Halloween dance for seventh- and eighth- graders from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Oxford Hills Middle School.

Relay for Life

NORWAY – The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Planning Team is getting ready for its first Relay For Life 2004. Relay for Life provides an opportunity for anyone and everyone to participate in the fight against cancer in their community. Volunteers are welcome for the planning team, which will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Fare Share Commons, 447 Main St. Please use the parking behind the building in the municipal parking lot. Volunteers needed

BETHEL – Maine Handicapped Skiing is seeking winter volunteers. Every winter, the organization teaches more than 250 adults and children with physical disabilities to downhill ski, snowboard, cross country ski and snowshoe. It needs at least 350 volunteers to make this possible. Volunteers are required to take three days of training in November and December, and then give at least 10 days of volunteer time working with handicapped participants at three possible locations: Sunday River Ski Resort, Sunday River Inn and Cross Country Ski Center, and Sugarloaf/USA. Volunteers receive a ski/trail pass for every day they volunteer from Jan. 5 to March 31. People served may have traumatic brain injury stroke, spina bifida, cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury. They could be blind and visually impaired, deaf and hearing impaired, and amputees. Potential volunteers must be at least 18, be an intermediate skier or rider, and have their own equipment and indemnifiable bindings for skis. There is a junior volunteer program for ages 16 and 17.
