Maine voters have always been smarter than average. They know that when an out-of-state organization spends a lot of money and hides behind a native organization to convince people to vote their way, it’s because there’s something in it for them, but not especially for us.

Sure, we’ll get more employment while they build. Sure, we’ll get more jobs. But they will beat the level of a waitress’ pay and not of the restaurant owners. Their money will mostly go out of state.

They know, too, if they’ve looked it up, that there is no published record on a casino by any city (except maybe Las Vegas) that show they are profitable for the area they are in. Facts show that, ultimately, casinos cost towns more than they bring in. There is increased police protection, traffic control problems, higher crime rates, more violence and robbery.

Yup, if Maine people think twice, they will all vote against big-spending, smooth-talking, out-of-state promoters of the casino.
