RUMFORD – The Governors Night Events in Rumford on Oct. 16 welcomed Gov. John Baldacci to the River Valley area. There was much discussion of economic development and the developments in the Rumford area relating to the Technology Center, the Pyrolysis Project, and upcoming investments by Meadwestvaco.
Baldacci praised the efforts of Mexico Town Manager Joe Derouche, Sen. Bruce Bryant and Rep. John Patrick for their work with the Growth Council. The governor greeted many long-time supporters from throughout Oxford County at a reception at the home of Jennifer and Dieter Kreckel, and at the dinner at the Rumford Eagles.
The Governors Night program featured remarks by House Majority Leader John Richardson, Assistant Majority Leader Bob Duplessie, Sen. Bruce Bryant, Rep. John Patrick, Rep. Rosita Gagne-Friel and County Democratic Chairwoman Cathy Newell. Gwethalyn Phillips, Democratic National Committeewoman, concluded the program with a call to action for the 2004 campaign. A silent auction followed. Joe Derouche served as moderator and introduced county officeholders, Commissioner Fred Kennard and Treasurer Mary Anne Prue.
The county Democrats will have a booth at the Oxford Hills Showcase on Oct. 24 and 25. This event, sponsored by the Oxford Hills Growth Council, will be held at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
