1930 – 2003

AUBURN – John H. Young, 73, of Summit St., Auburn, died at Clover Manor Nursing Home Thursday, Oct. 23.

Mr. Young was born in Lamoine, on July 5, 1930, the son of John L. and Virginia (Purves) Young. He was educated locally and was a graduate of Edward Little High School in 1948.

On Feb. 27,1951 he married the former Natalie Ann Conner and would settle down to raise their family. Mr. Young was employed as supervisor of the service department at the Coca-Cola plant in Lewiston for 27 years until his retirement in 1984.

He was also very active serving as trustee at Rainbow Federal Credit Union for many years. Mr. Young was a member of St. Philip’s Parish, National Director of Family Group U.S.A., was a team member of Marriage Encounter for 15 years and served as Maine Director of World Wide Marriage Encounter for 10 years.

Mr. Young had a very strong faith and his church was very important to him. Mr. & Mrs. Young traveled all over the world but their favorite place was spending time with each other in the Cayman Islands.

Among his interest was his love of reading, coin collecting, and investing money but above all else he cherished his time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Albert and husband David of Pittston, and Katherine Young of Bangor; five sons, Col. John K. U.S.M.C. and wife Patrice of Va., James W. and wife Lori-Ann of Poland, Jeffrey P. and wife Michelle of N. Monmouth, Jerome M. of Auburn, and Joel G. of Andover; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Lahey of Rockland; three brothers, William of Fla., Richard of Morrill, and Robert of Camden.

He was predeceased by his wife, Natalie in December of 2001; and his son, Joel Timothy in 1958.
