Flu shots

Trick-or-treat

NORWAY – Trick or treating will be held for ages 11 and under from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center, 29 Marion Ave. Kids will be able to visit a haunted forest and go to the witch’s station for witch’s brew.

PARIS – The annual Community Children’s Halloween Party will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in Foster Carroll Legion Post 72 hall on Church Street for Norway and Paris children in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. Children must register when they arrive at the party. Registration numbers areto help identify costume contest winners and are entered into the witch’s wagon prize phone calls.

Holiday dance

PARIS – Maurice Dance Theatre will host a Halloween dance for seventh- and eighth- graders from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Oxford Hills Middle School.

Performers’ night

NORWAY – The Commons Music Collective will hold a public Coffeehouse Open Mic at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. This will be a night of Halloween fun, organizers said. Performers can sign up at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, with kids admitted free. Costume dress is being encouraged, but isn’t required. All ages and talents are invited to participate or enjoy the show. Refreshments will be offered. Families who are out trick-or-treating are being invited to stop by.

OTISFIELD – The Recreation Committee will hold a Halloween party from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Community Hall, Route 121. Children up to age 12 are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. Included will be games and treats. People are encouraged to bring a carved pumpkin for a contest.

Flu shots

BRIDGTON – Bridgton Hospital will offer a drive-through flu shot clinic from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 1, at the front entrance of the hospital. Individuals stay in their vehicles, are asked to sign release forms and will receive information about the flu shot and the flu. Cost is $10 by cash or check. Receipts will be provided since no insurance processing is available. Flu shots are advised for those ages 50 or older and anyone with chronic conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease, and chronic heart or lung conditions.

Blood drive

FRYEBURG – An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at Fryeburg Academy on Bradley Street. NORWAY – The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Planning Team is getting ready for its first Relay For Life 2004. Relay for Life provides an opportunity for anyone and everyone to participate in the fight against cancer in their community. Volunteers needed

BETHEL – Maine Handicapped Skiing is seeking winter volunteers. Every winter, the organization teaches more than 250 adults and children with physical disabilities to downhill ski, snowboard, cross country ski and snowshoe. It needs at least 350 volunteers to make this possible. Volunteers are required to take three days of training in November and December, and then give at least 10 days of volunteer time working with handicapped participants at three possible locations: Sunday River Ski Resort, Sunday River Inn and Cross Country Ski Center, and Sugarloaf/USA. Volunteers receive a ski/trail pass for every day they volunteer from Jan. 5 to March 31. People served may have traumatic brain injury stroke, spina bifida, cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury. They could be blind and visually impaired, deaf and hearing impaired, and amputees. Potential volunteers must be at least 18, be an intermediate skier or rider, and have their own equipment and indemnifiable bindings for skis. There is a junior volunteer program for ages 16 and 17.
