DIXFIELD – The Promising Futures Committee at Dirigo High School is hosting its second community forum.
The first topic for discussion is a student code of conduct which all schools are being asked to write. Students filled out the survey and the results have been tabulated and will be shared at the forum. Surveys will be available at the discussion tables for anyone who wants to fill one out. Student results will be compared with adult responses.
One goal of Promising Futures is to continue to develop and revise the high school curriculum.
The second discussion topic will focus on enrichment learning opportunities for students.
During a summer session at Bowdoin College the committee learned about exciting things other schools have done to provide different, yet effective learning opportunities for their students.
One school offered several seminar type courses during a winter session. All other classes stopped and each teacher provided an enrichment class such as fly-tying, snowshoeing or photography. Another school decided to learn all about the ecology of their river valley. Their end product was a coffee table book created by the students.
