LEWISTON – The 13th annual Twin Cities Marching Band Show, co-hosted by Edward Little and Lewiston high schools, was held on Oct. 25 at Lewiston High School.
Nine bands from central and southern Maine attended the sixth and final show of the regular season sponsored by the Maine Band Directors Association. Biddeford, Lawrence, Leavitt, Marshwood, Old Orchard Beach, South Portland and Wells were the other high schools besides the co-hosts that were present. Also attending the Twin Cities show was the Boston University Marching Band.
Lawrence High School received an overall rating of one star for its performance. They received two star ratings in the adjudicated areas of drum major, percussion and general effect.
Bands receiving an overall rating of two stars for their performances were Edward Little, Leavitt, Lewiston, Marshwood and Wells. Edward Little received three stars for drum major, percussion and music. Lewiston received three stars from drum major and Marshwood received three stars for percussion.
Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach and South Portland each received an overall rating of three stars. Biddeford High School and South Portland High School received four stars for percussion.
The final performance of the evening was an exhibition by the Boston University Marching Band.
The 20th annual Marching Band Finals sponsored by the association will be held at Edward Little High School’s Walton Field on Saturday, Nov. 1. The show, which begins at 4 p.m., will feature performances by the marching bands from Biddeford, Edward Little, Lawrence, Leavitt, Lewiston, Marshwood, Old Orchard Beach, Portsmouth, N.H., Sanford, South Portland and Wells. Also performing will be the Pride of Maine, the University of Maine Black Bear Marching Band.
Admission to the finals is $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens with a family limit of $25. The increased admissions at finals contributes to the expenses of finals awards and the two scholarships which the association awards each year.
Additional activities sponsored by the MBDA are the Maine Open Jazz Festival, the Maine Winter Guard and Percussion Extravaganza, the MBDA Concert Band Festival and the MBDA Chamber Music Festival.
