UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Martin Brodeur stopped 25 shots for his first shutout of the season, and Jay Pandolfo had a goal and an assist as the New Jersey Devils beat the New York Islanders 4-0 Tuesday night.
Jeff Friesen, Brian Gionta and John Madden also scored for the Devils, who remained unbeaten on the road (3-0-1-0).
Rick DiPietro turned aside 23 shots but lost for the second time this season. The defeat snapped a three-game home winning streak for the Islanders.
Brodeur earned his 65th career shutout, keeping the game scoreless early by making a glove save on Shawn Bates’ breakaway attempt at 2:51 of the first period, New York’s best chance of the night.
Ducks 3, Rangers 1
NEW YORK – Sergei Fedorov assisted on two power-play goals and Martin Gerber made 38 saves, leading the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to a 3-1 victory over the New York Rangers.
Gerber, playing his second straight game in place of struggling goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere, fell just short of his second shutout of the season when Alex Kovalev scored with 3:51 left.
Wild 3, Sabres 1
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Manny Fernandez stopped 33 shots, leading the Minnesota Wild past the Buffalo Sabres 3-1.
Wes Walz, Alexander Daigle and Andrew Brunette scored for the Wild, who got a big boost from their special teams.
Minnesota went 2-for-4 on the power play in winning for just the third time in 10 games this season.
Hurricanes 3, Sharks 0
RALEIGH, N.C. – Josef Vasicek had a career-high three goals and Kevin Weekes recorded his second straight shutout as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the San Jose Sharks 3-0.
