1920 – 2003
LEWISTON – Maurice J. B. Dallaire, 82, of 38 Fairlawn Ave., Lewiston, died Monday, Oct. 27, at d’Youville Pavilion after a long illness.
He was born in Auburn, Nov. 9, 1920, a son of Lucien Dallaire and Dora Fluet Dallaire; he was educated in local schools. On Dec. 5, 1942, he married Annette Levasseur who, after 61 years of marriage, remained his sweetheart and beloved partner.
Mr. Dallaire enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October 1941 and served his country on both the Atlantic and Pacific naval fronts during World War II. Upon his return from the military in 1945 he worked at the Auburn Die Co. and later for the Star Die Co. in Winthrop until 1963 when he purchased O’Brien Die Co. with an avid entrepreneurial spirit, his die company grew into A & M Rubber Supply Co. and O’Brien Consolidated Industries, which continues operating today.
A generous man, he took pleasure in providing his family with numerous excursions to lakes and ocean, musical theater, movies and concerts. He appreciated the beauty of love, of nature, and of music. He had a deep religious faith and was a parishioner of Holy Family Church for over 50 years. During his lifetime he belonged to Le Club Musical Litteraire, the Lewiston/Auburn Exchange Club, the Lewiston Rotary Club and the Elks Club.
Upon retirement, he was a volunteer and board member for the local chapter of S.C.O.R.E. His passion for golf in his later years culminated a life-long interest in sports, including tennis, baseball and ice hockey, having played on the local Maple Leafs hockey team.
He is survived by his wife, Annette of Lewiston; two daughters, Susan Dallaire Lagueux and husband Raymond J. of Lewiston, Loraine Lemieux and companion Rich Nowakowski of Nashua, N.H.; four grandchildren, Angelique Lagueux Kania and husband Robert of Duxbury, Mass., Robert C. Lagueux of New Haven, Conn., Stuart Pappas of Manchester, N.H., and Anthony Pappas of Manchester, N.H.; seven great-grandchildren, Kristin, Katie, Jacob and Nicholas Pappas and Alexander, Nicholas and Gregory Kania; one sister, Rita F. Spencer of Lewiston; one brother, Leo (Joe) Dallaire and wife Yvette of Lewiston; one sister-in-law, Lorette Levasseur of Lewiston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
