JAY – Selectmen tabled action Monday on a decision to change Saturday hours at the transfer station. First, they want to hear what residents have to say about a proposal to reduce the hours.

An exit poll about the hours is to be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 4, after residents vote on state ballot issues.

Recycling coordinator Rhonda Irish is looking at ways to trim budget costs related to the transfer station, Town Manager Ruth Marden said.

The present Saturday hours at the station are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those hours mean overtime for town employees who work there, Marden said.

Any change of hours would occur after Christmas, if approved, Irish said Monday.

Town officials received some calls from residents concerned about reducing the Saturday hours.

Resident Ellen Levesque suggested residents be polled to see what they would like to see for hours.

The town has curbside pickup, Marden said, and the transfer station also is open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
