I wonder how many people in Buckfield were as dumbfounded as I was when I read a report from a recent selectmen’s meeting. Quote: “Approval was given by the voters at June’s town meeting to construct the new building (town garage) on the old Maine Waste Oil site.”

There was nothing in the town warrant that even resembled this statement.

For the people of Buckfield that were at the town meeting, which was the bigger part of the town, Buckfield voters have never voted to build a new town garage. They were never allowed to vote on it at a town meeting. I asked at town meeting why there wasn’t a simple article in the warrant asking if the town wanted to build a new garage?

For two plus years now, we haven’t been allowed to vote on important and expensive items. Let’s nail the back door shut and take back our legal rights.

I would also like to mention another problem. The questionnaire enclosed in our tax bills was not discussed at Selectmen’s Meeting. Selectmen didn’t even know or authorize it.

Are we getting to the point where we don’t need selectmen, the planning board or the board of appeals?
