LITCHFIELD – The ninth annual Holiday Fair will be held from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Litchfield Sportsmen’s Clubhouse, Hallowell Road. There will be tables for crafts, baked goods, books, puzzles, white elephant items and face painting. The kitchen will be open for breakfast and lunch. Admission is free.

Plan reunion

AUBURN – The Edward Little High School class of 1979 will hold a reunion meeting on Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Blues Club, Main Street. Anyone interested in attending should be there at 5:30 p.m. For more information, call Marcie Hird at 783-6640.

Open house

DURHAM – The Durham Historical Society will hold an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, to celebrate the restoration of the Union Church bell tower. The church is on the Royalsborough Road at Southwest Bend. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome. Call 353-8149 for more information.

BOWDOIN – The Bowdoin Historical Society will hold Remembrance Day at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Bowdoin Community Building, Route 125. The subject will be the old schools of Bowdoin. Photos and material on the schools would be welcome. Refreshments will be served after the program. All are welcome.

Area nurses

LEWISTON – The Central Maine General Hospital-Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing Alumni Association will hold a luncheon meeting on Thursday, Nov. 13, at Central Maine Community College School of Culinary Arts in Auburn. Lunch will be served at noon following a social time starting at 11:30 a.m. Dr. John James will attend as a special guest. Following the luncheon, Sharon Khurt, director, and Susan Baltrus, associate director, will update the association on the school of nursing. All area nurses are invited. Bird club

AUBURN – The Stanton Bird Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at the High Street Congregational Church, 35 High St. Speaker will be Dr. Nathaniel T. Wheelwright, professor of biology, Bowdoin College, and director, Bowdoin Scientific Station, Kent Island, New Brunswick, Canada. He will discuss “Understanding Mate Choice in Birds: Field and Laboratory Studies of Savannah Sparrows.” Meetings are free and open to the public. LEWISTON – The Lewiston Senior Citizens will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St. All members are invited to attend. Agenda topics will include upcoming trips, updating the bylaws, plans for the Nov. 6 and 7 craft fair and plans for the Christmas party (tickets will be on sale). Michael Courtemanche of Modern Woodmen of America will present a program on protecting retirement dollars without taxing Social Security followed by a question-and-answer session, then singing and guitar playing by Helena Woodhead. At the end of the meeting there will be the usual raffles, pot of gold and a light lunch.

Art club guest

AUBURN – The Auburn Art Club Guest Day, Monday, Nov. 3, will feature Norma Rice Gould at 2 p.m. in the High Street Congregational Church sanctuary. She will play classical and contemporary piano selections. The hostess, Ruth Farnsworth, and her committee, Dorothy Cole, Annie Ray, Myra Wright and Jane Emerson, will be assisted by Beverly Preble and June Spear.

OES meeting

AUBURN – Mt. Olivet Chapter 29, OES, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Masonic Hall, Turner Street. The program will be on counting blessings. Cathy Hunnewell and Arlene Zabierek will provide refreshments after the meeting. All Eastern Star members are invited.

LEWISTON – Anew self-esteem support group will be offered by the Lewiston Center for Women, Work and Community from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the center. Together, women will create a safe environment to share the challenges, risks, adventures and opportunities. They will explore skills and tools to support self-growth and personal development. LEWISTON – Rosary Sodality will hold its annual Memorial Mass for deceased members at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the chapel. A general meeting will follow. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Parenting talk

LEWISTON – Lyn Rowden, family life consultant, will address the topic, “How to Talk to Your Child about Sexuality,” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Holy Cross Church. Rowden promotes abstinence for teens and has many years of experience in the field. There is no fee for the session, but registration is requested in case there are handouts. AUBURN – First Auburn Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Hasty Community Center, Pettengill Park. The board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. There will be raffle and pot of gold drawings and, following a bag lunch, bingo will be played. Tickets will be available for the Thanksgiving dinner at Martindale Country Club on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The cost is $6. At the Oct. 15 meeting, Pat Edwards and Gerry Brushwein accepted reservations for the Nov. 4 luncheon at Julien’s in Gray. Trip Chairwoman Joyce Poole announced the New Year’s extravaganza, a cruise to England and a Prince Edward Island five-day trip in 2004. There were 75 members present for a Halloween lunch and a musical program presented by Margaret Berry on the trombone and Duncan Webster on the trumpet. Following lunch, bingo was played. Attendance winners were Letha Haggerty and Guy Donahue; pot of gold, Bill Redmun, Grace McDaniel and Mary Tassinari. Several members attended the monthly brunch on Oct. 16 at the community center and many members participated in the Oct. 18 fall fair.

Grange night

MINOT – Guest Officers Night will be observed when members of Androscoggin Pomona Grange 1 meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Minot Center Grange. Guests from other granges in the area will fill the chairs. A seasonal program will be presented. A 6:30 supper will be served by the host grange. All members and guests are welcome.

Dog licenses

AUBURN – Dog licenses are due Jan. 1 of each year. Those who no longer have their dog or have any questions should call 786-2634, extension 233. The licensing fee is $6 for neutered/spayed dogs and $10 for male/female dogs. Owners must show a current state rabies certificate and a neutering/spaying form, if applicable. Dogs may be licensed by mail by sending a copy of the rabies certificate and a check or money order payable to the city of Auburn to: City Clerk, 45 Spring St., Auburn, ME 04210. According to state law, a $15 late fee will be added to each license for all dogs licensed after Jan. 31. If a dog is unlicensed as of March 1, a $25 late charge will be added to each license. Office hours are Monday (except holidays) from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Meeting speaker

AUBURN – The National Association of Insurance Women – Androscoggin Valley will meet Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Martindale Country Club, Beech Hill Road. The meeting will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m. and dinner at 5:45. The speaker will be Carrie Gott of InforME, who will give presentation of “Maine Electronic Government Services.” The association of insurance professionals is dedicated to the development of leaders in the insurance industry. Crafters wanted

LEWISTON – Crafters are wanted to exhibit their wares at a Holiday Bazaar to be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8, at Hillview off Sabattus Street. Another bazaar is scheduled for Meadowview on Spofford Street on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Would-be exhibitors are requested to contact Reta Herrick at 783-8539 as soon as possible to reserve a space. Cost a table is $8. Proceeds will benefit the Family Self-Sufficiency Program at the Lewiston Housing Authority.
