BOSTON (AP) – Boston Red Sox starter John Burkett and reliever Mike Timlin have filed for free agency.

The 38-year-old Burkett, the team’s fifth starter most of the season, was 12-9 with a 5.15 ERA in 2003.

Timlin, 37, didn’t allow an earned run in the entire postseason, including 5.1 scoreless innings against the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series. He was 6-4 with a 3.55 ERA and two saves during the regular season. Both filed Tuesday, a day after outfielder Dave McCarty and starting pitcher Jeff Suppan.

On Wednesday, the team announced it would open the 2004 season on April 5 in Baltimore. The home opener is scheduled for April 9 against the Toronto Blue Jays. The team’s interleague schedule includes games at San Francisco Giants, and visits to Fenway by the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego.

The Red Sox also announced an overall price ticket price increase of 4.8 percent, including a $5 rise in single game field box seats to $75 and roof box seats to $70. It reduced prices on 600 seats in the upper bleachers from $20 to $12, giving the team a total of 1,000 upper bleacher seats at that price. The team touted its ticket price increase as the lowest in nine seasons.

In addition, the team said it will create a new season ticket plan, “The 10th Man Plan,” which is a 10-game mini season ticket plan that starts at $180. The Red Sox plan to put single-game tickets on sale before Christmas.

as part of a “Christmas at Fenway” event.
