1914 – 2003

FARMINGTON – Sylvia Storer Brooks, 89, of Sandy River Center for Health Care and Rehabilitation in Farmington died Oct. 29.

She had been a patient there since April 14, 2000. She was born in Farmington Falls, on Aug. 29, 1914, the daughter of Martin and Elsie (Plaisted) Storer. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1933, and from Portland School of Nursing in 1936. She married Kenneth M. Brooks of West Farmington on Sept. 14, 1939.

She practiced her nursing skills at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for many years until her retirement in 1972, at which time she was Nursing Supervisor.

For the next 20 years she and her husband spent the winter months at their home in Spring Hill, Fla., and summered at their cottage on Flying Pond in Mount Vernon. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 143.

Survivors include two sons, Terry and his wife Janet of Pembroke, Mass., and Jim and his wife Joanne of Farmington; four grandsons; three great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and a sister, Marsha Ranger of Portland.

Mrs. Brooks was predeceased by her husband of 61 years in August of 2001; her sisters, Martha Meisner and Zilpha Oliver of Farmington Falls; and two brothers, Lendel, who was killed in World War II, and Raymond who lived in Kentucky.
