1915 – 2003

RUMFORD – Helen M. Whytock, 88, died Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Rumford Hospital. She resided on Main Street in Mexico and has lived in the area most of her life.

She was born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, Sept. 28, 1915, the daughter of George and Vencie (Whitney) Marshall and she graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1933.

She was very active with St. Andrews Society of Maine, where she was known as the “Sunshine Lady” and very active member of the Mexico Congregational Church working on suppers and fairs. She was ready to cook for any occasion and was famous in town for her doughnuts.

She was past president of Clan Chisholm Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Town and Country Garden Club and had been an active volunteer at the Rumford Community Hospital. She was also a member of the Dixfield Senior Citizens and the Mexico Historical Society.

She was married to Mexico Fire Chief William “Scotty” Whytock, who died in Rumford on Jan. 30, 2000.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Broomhall and husband, Raymond of Mexico; five grandchildren, Lynn Gould and husband, Michael of Mexico, Kathy Carey and husband, Edward, Jr. of Rumford, Scott Whytock and wife, Sherry of Scarborough, Christopher Whytock and wife, Sarah of Thomaston and Beth MacFarlane and husband, Shawn of Dixfield; two great-granddaughters, Amanda Carey of Rumford and Kristin Gould of Mexico; and a great-grandson, William J. Whytock of Scarborough.

She was predeceased by a son, William G. Whytock July 13, 1984; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Sarah Vigue of Scarborough; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Whytock
