NEW PORTLAND – The sixth annual Talent Show will be 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Central School. Most of the acts will be new, although The Two of Hearts singing duet and Alan Trudel’s band will again perform.

A new feature this year will be a baby-sitting service staffed by some of school’s eighth-graders. The service will be provided in return for a donation to their eighth-grade trip next year.

A refreshment table will be available with cookies and squares as well as coffee and cider. All proceeds will go to the New Portland Community Library.

Retired teachers

FARMINGTON – Lunch reservations will be taken until Nov. 10 for the next meeting of the Franklin County Retired Teachers Association. The group will meet at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, at The Granary. Irene Carnie will host the meeting and Jean Mitchell will introduce the program with guest speaker Betsy Cantrell, an AARP representative. Driver education class

SALEM – A new driver education class will begin Monday, Nov. 17. Classes will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Mount Abram High School.

Registration may be done at the Adult Education Office in Kingfield. Students must bring an original birth certificate and a signed Social Security card when they register. A parent or guardian must also be present for registration. The course is $500. People can phone 265-5511, extension 7, for registration appointments.

Square dance Nov. 8

WILTON – Friendship Squares Square Dance Club will host a square dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Cushing School. The caller will be Jim Belanger and the round dance cuer will be Kitty Doar.
