BOWDOINHAM – A 19-year-old male was assaulted on his lawn Sunday morning by three men, police said.

The youth, whose name was withheld by police, was taken by ambulance to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick where he was treated for cuts and bruises, said Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Peter Lamarre in a written release.

The three attackers, two adults and a 19-year-old male, were known to the victim who gave police their names. He said all three lived in Richmond.

Neighbors heard fighting on the lawn at 42 Main St. at about 11:10 a.m. and notified police that gunshots had been fired, Lamarre said.

During their search for the three suspects, police learned that a resident of Park Road in Richmond had called the local dispatcher to report her 19-year-old son had been shot in the leg, Lamarre said. The teen was taken by ambulance to an Augusta hospital where he was treated for a leg wound.

Police have recovered a .22 caliber semi automatic handgun as well as cartridge casings, Lamarre said. Police would not say where the gun or casings came from.

No charges have been filed, Lamarre said. The case remains under investigation and is expected to be turned over to detectives at the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department. An officer from the Topsham Police Department assisted in the investigation.
