An amended certificate of organization was issued to the district on Oct. 21.

PARIS – Board members learned Monday that the state has approved the organization plan of the eight towns of SAD 17.

By state law, voting on school district issues by the board is based on population.

The school board is comprised of 22 directors, two from Harrison, Hebron, Otisfield, Waterford and West Paris. Norway, Oxford and Paris have four members. The votes per director are given numerical values based on population. When the new census figures came out the weight of votes had to be realigned according to those numbers.

The Maine Department of Education issued an amended certificate of organization to the district on Oct. 21.

The board also approved snow plow bids to the Wayne Kennagh & Sons Excavating, Paris, and Tibbetts Excavation in Oxford.

Kennagh will plow and sand the Oxford Hills Middle School in Paris and the Mildred M. Fox Elementary School in Paris for $150 per storm.

Tibbetts will plow and sand, on a per storm basis, the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris for $500, Guy E. Rowe Elementary School in Norway for $175 and the Oxford Elementary School in Oxford for $285.

Superintendent Mark Eastman also announced that Waterford Memorial Elementary School first grade teacher Elaine Ambrose was named as staff member of the month. He said Ambrose routinely goes “above and beyond” for students and school. She has been teaching in the area since 1974. She has also taught elementary school aged children in West Paris, Hebron and Harrison. She is originally from Denmark, Maine.
