LIVERMORE FALLS – Superintendent Terry Despres announced several appointments to the SAD 36 Board of Directors Thursday night including the reappointment of Nicholas J. Rehagan, Ph.D., as counselor supervisor.

Named as class advisers at the high school were: Class of 2007, Susan St. Pierre and Rod Wright; Class of 2006, Mark Cyr, Vicki Thayer-Adams and Michelle Merrill; Class of 2005, Ted Finn, Greg Swenson, Diane Maurais, Anita Dube and Rick Hulbert; and Class of 2004, Donna Wilcox, Sandra Hoyt and Anne Weatherbee.

Other high school appointments were: Eric Jewett to the Math Team, Sandra Hoyt for National Honor Society, Anne Weatherbee for drama, Ginger Stoneton on yearbook, Darrell Roundy for Jazz Band and Music, and Ted Finn for Student Council.

High school coaches will be Jill Dunton and Jeff Marceau for skiing, Ken Jones for girls’ varsity basketball with John Trask as junior varsity coach, Ross Hamblin for boys’ basketball with Tim Madden as JV coach.

Despres noted that the cheering coach position has been reopened.

Middle school appointments included Christopher Moreau as athletic director, Barbara Dufour for cheering, Chance Carlson for girls’ basketball and Debra Finley for JV.

Banding together

Despres also announced that Band Director Darrell Roundy has agreed to allow students of Jay High School to join with the Livermore Falls High School band until after February vacation. They will start on Tuesday. He stressed that this is only a temporary situation brought about because the Jay band leader is on maternity leave and no substitute has been found.

The 28 JHS musicians will be bused to LFHS. They’ll take part in a combined Christmas concert and a second performance just before February break. There will be no band at the Jay middle or elementary schools until after the break.

Directors Ashley O’Brien, Elaine Smith, Jean Tardif and Denise Rodzen reported on the Maine School Management Association convention they attended last week.

O’Brien was the district’s official delegate and reported that votes had been taken on Essential Programs, forced consolidation and No Child Left Behind. The others said the conference covered many topics, including programs that other schools have, at risk students and a high school exit exam.

Despres called the open house at the Cedar Street Facility, which had preceded the board meeting, a success with good response and several good comments.

“The public was happy the board maintained its promise to salvage this building,” he said. He also commented that sixth-grade parents seem to like the transition for their students from the elementary to the middle school.

There are still several minor things to be completed on the building, including installation of lockers for the sixth-graders.

He said he was especially pleased that Bob Jones, a former board member and longtime chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, had been able to attend to see the many changes.
