The meeting will be preceded by a closed session on a poverty tax abatement hearing.

RUMFORD – Selectmen will take up two issues about fire department matters and discuss representation on the local community center board when they meet on Thursday.

The regular, twice-monthly meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Municipal Building.

It is preceded by a closed session on a poverty tax abatement hearing at 6 p.m.

At the last meeting, the board directed Town Manager Robert Welch and Fire Chief John Woulfe to devise a new agreement with surrounding towns on the use of Rumford’s extrication tool known as the “Jaws of Life.”

The agreement will include who can call it out and where it can be used. Some had questioned the cost to the town for use in other towns.

The board will also decide whether to go ahead with amending an agreement between the town and MeadWestvaco that governs use of a municipal parking lot on River Street that is owned by the paper company.

The fire department wants to build a temporary building on part of the lot to house a new ladder truck. The existing agreement allows use of the lot for vehicle parking only.

Also on the agenda is a discussion on possible selectman representation on the Greater Rumford Area Community Center board. Chairman Jim Thibodeau asked for the item because the town provides virtually all of the financial support for the facility.

Other agenda items include awarding the contract for printing the town’s annual report, and actions on a winter parking ban, and liquor license and amusement permit requests.
