GREENWOOD – Selectmen denied Norman Millett a junkyard permit on Tuesday, saying he hadn’t complied with requests to clean up his property.

Selectman Ivan Roberts toured the junkyard site Sunday. Tuesday, he said that Millett has done nothing to clean it up.

Selectmen also agreed to notify Millett that he has 90 days to clean the area or the matter would be referred to the town attorney.

The town has already referred situations involving two junkyard owners to the Paris law firm of Kurtz & Perry.

Junkyard owners Malcolm D. McClean and Douglas Grover were sent letters on Sept. 26 outlining steps they need to take to comply with state law. They were also told the town expects them to pay for its legal fees in pursuing the matter.

McClean has responded, asking for a couple of amendments to the proposal.

In a letter dated Oct. 29, the law firm told Grover that since he did not respond “positively” to the first letter a complaint would be filed against him on Nov. 14 unless the property is cleaned or he enters into a binding agreement with the town to do so.

In other business, selectmen were informed in a letter from a citizen that the stone wall in Richardson Hollow Cemetery was in serious disrepair.

The board agreed to look into repairing the wall, but noted work would probably not happen until the spring.
